If you know your pet has fleas, for their health and safety please treat them before their appointment.

Our shop does carry flea shampoo that is certified only for dogs that are 8 months old and weigh more than 10lbs.

  • We CAN NOT give a flea bath to dogs younger or weigh less than 10lbs. Due to the chemicals in the flea shampoo.
  • We DO NOT offer flea baths to cats, we do not have the proper equipment or  certified flea shampoo for cats.
  • We CAN NOT give a flea bath if your dog had flea bath within 24 hours of their appointment because of the chemicals in the shampoo.
  • We DO NOT offer flea dips on how dangerous the chemicals are for pets.

Please be aware, flea baths treat the fleas that are ON the skin of your dog. It does not treat the fleas that:

  • Will go and hide inside ears, nose, eyes, and sanitary areas.
  • Dog’s bedding, toys, clothing, collars, and leash.

Clean areas thoroughly where your dog lives. If your dog repeatedly comes in with fleas and we have informed you about the problem you may be turned away from services until your pet is put on a treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FIND A TICK ON PETS?

We will try and remove all ticks we find on your pet and inform you if we find any. However if your pet repeatedly comes in with ticks and we have informed you about the problem you may be turned away from services until your pet is put on a treatment.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON SEDATION?

We do not sedate pets. We may suggest you look into medicating your pet if the grooming process is stressful for them, but please consult with your vet first.

DO YOU GROOM CATS?

Yes. At this time we only have ONE pet stylist that is educated on cat grooming and is only taking new cat clients on a by-case-basis. We are only willing to work with cat clients that are interested in getting their cat on a routine grooming schedule. We are unable to take on older cats that have never been professionally groomed before and/or shave downs because it is a high stress process and requires a lot of time.

WHAT DO YOU OFFER FOR SMALL MAMMALS / EXOTIC PETS?

We offer nail trims for rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets. We DO NOT trim nails on reptiles or birds. We DO NOT trim bird beaks.

MY PET HAS SEPARATION ANXIETY, CAN I STAY AND WATCH?

No. For the safety of your pet and our staff, you can not stay with your pet for the grooming process. Sometimes pets behave better when they are away from their guardians and in some cases pets are not a candidate for a professional grooming experience.

WHEN CAN I PICK UP MY PET?

At the Bone Appetit we strive to make your pet’s grooming experience the best. Working with sharp objects with live animals takes a lot of patience and we do try to get through a full groom in a timely manner, but sometimes there are unforeseen distractions or events that can take more time.

Please be patient and be sure we will contact you via phone call or text when you can pick up your pet.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN SHAMPOO AND/OR CONDITIONER FOR YOU TO USE?

We will only take outside shampoos and/or conditioners if they are ordered by your vet to use. We have multiple pet stylists that have allergic reactions to certain ingredients that are in shampoos and conditioners.

CAN I BATHE MY PET AND BRING THEM IN FOR YOU TO DO THE HAIRCUT?

No. We are professionally trained on how to properly clean pets for the haircut process. If the pet is not bathed to that standard we will have to re-bathe it, for that reason we can not take pets that have been pre-bathed at home.

I KNOW THAT MY PET’S HAIR HAS A FEW MATS, BUT WE LIKE TO KEEP THEIR HAIR LONG/FLUFFY, WHAT IS YOUR PROTOCOL?

We do not brush out mats. The health and safety of your pet is our utmost concern. Mats occur when loose hairs repeatedly twist around attached strands, and the resulting tangle is not swiftly removed. They can look like clumps and can be tough, if not impossible, to remove with a brush or comb alone. Brushing on these clumps of hair is painful for animals as you are pulling on their skin and makes their experience not enjoyable. As animals they do not understand their hair is tangled, they just know that brushing is hurting them.

We will do our best to keep your pet as long/fluffy as possible, within our health and safety policy and making your pet’s experience a positive one.

HOW DO I KEEP MY PET’S HAIR FROM MATTING?

With proper at home maintenance and routine scheduled grooming appointments.

Depending on the length of hair you would like to keep your pet will determine the amount of maintenance your pet’s hair will need – longer the hair the more maintenance it will need. Longer hair means brushing and combing EVERYDAY – especially coming in from outdoors – and more frequent grooming appointments. Depending on the breed, hair texture, and length of hair we can suggest grooming appointments every two to six weeks! Please ask us about proper tools and products to use, we are professionals and love to educate on proper maintenance to help you and your pet be happy, healthy, and safe.
